Rihanna Kenny, who professionally goes by simply Rihanna, is the individualistic, uniquely striking young R&B singer from the Barbados.She got her big break the age of 15when one of her friends introduced her to music producer Evan Rogers, who was vacationing in Barbados. Rogers helped Rihanna record material in the U.S. which was sent to various recording companies. Rihanna’s first album, Music of the Sun, was released on August 30, 2005. Her debut single, the dance hall reggae-influenced ‘Pon de Replay’ garnered decent airplay.Def Jam rolled out "Pon de Replay," the lead single of Music of the Sun, which was produced almost entirely by Rogers and Sturken and which synthesized Caribbean rhythms and beats with urban-pop songwriting. "Pon de Replay" caught fire almost immediately, climbing all the way to number two on The Billboard Hot 100. Rihanna's third album, Good Girl Gone Bad (2007), continued her success and, more notably, signaled a change of direction. Whereas her past two albums had been been imbalanced, Good Girl Gone Bad was a first-rate dance-pop album. Rihanna won four honors at the 2008 Billboard Music Awards including Female Artist of the Year and performed at the 2008 Brit Awards with "Klaxons", singing "Umbrella".
